Job Description

Manulife is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Data Engineer to join our Canada Data Office. In this role, you will be responsible for building, maintaining, enhancing, and supporting new and existing Azure data pipelines for various analytical use cases, including AI/ML/BI/GEN AI and reporting. You will work closely with collaborators to understand data and use it to serve our businesses and operations, while ensuring alignment with Manulife's IT security and risk guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Understanding and Curation:

  • Gain a deep understanding of data by collaborating with business and advanced analytics partners.

  • Design, curate, and publish connected data sets that enable users to self-serve.

  • Quality and Security:

  • Ensure Azure applications in production run within SLA and maintain their robustness and security.

  • Collaborate with Architecture, security, and risk teams to implement the latest guidelines and Azure best practices.

  • Innovation and Problem Solving:

  • Propose technology improvements and innovative solutions to solve business problems.

  • Automate infrastructure provisioning and deployment using tools such as Terraform.

  • Leadership and Mentorship:

  • Lead, mentor, and guide data engineers to promote a customer-first approach.

  • Take the lead in maintaining the inventory of critical data elements and lineage.

  • CI/CD and Agile Methodologies:

  • Implement CI/CD pipelines to enable automated code deployment.

  • Participate in Agile sprints and ceremonies to support rapid iteration and development.

  • Collaboration and Relationship Building:

  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships and foster collaboration with various teams and partners within the organization.

What We Are Looking For

  • Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or data-related fields required. A Master's degree is a plus.

  • Experience:

  • 4 years of data engineering experience, with 2 years of experience working with Azure-related data technologies.

  • Technical Skills:

  • Solid understanding of Azure infrastructure (subscriptions, resource groups, resources, access control with RBAC, Azure AD integrations, network concepts, password/credential/key management, and data protection).

  • Strong hands-on knowledge of Azure Databricks, ADF, ADLS, Synapse Serverless/Dedicated/Spark pools, Python, PySpark, and T-SQL.

  • Experience designing and developing scripts for ETL processes and automation in Azure Data Factory and Azure Databricks.

  • High proficiency in GIT/Jenkins/DevOps processes to maintain and resolve issues with data pipelines in production.

  • Knowledge of implementing Azure technologies and networking via Terraform, and the ability to fix issues with Azure infrastructure in production.

  • Good understanding of data modeling, data mart, data lakehouse architecture, SCD, data mesh, and delta lake.

  • Solid understanding of data privacy and compliance regulations and best practices for preserving customer data.

Working Arrangement Hybrid

Salary range is expected to be between $74,270.00 CAD - $137,930.00 CAD
